Chail

Nestling in the shelter of virgin forests which cover many untrodden hills, Chail is a tiny resort in the Shiwalik region of Himachal Pradesh and has interesting history; The British Government annexed Chail from the Gurkha General Amar Singh in 1814, along with Shimla Hills. Later, the British Government gifted Chail, a quiet hamlet, part of the erstwhile Keonthal estate, to Maharaja Bhupinder Singh.

Kufri

At a height of 8,600 ft. Kufri is the winter sports capital. During winter, visitors have the facility for skiing. The skiing season is at its best during January and February. Equipment for skiing is available from HPTDC winter sports club at Kufri. Apart from skiing, Kufri is a lovely picnic spot with a beautiful view of the hills around and the snowy peaks. There is also a zoo that delights children.

Naldehra

Mashobra

13 kms. away from Shimla, Mashobra has several excellent picnic spots. Mashobra is the site of the annual Sipi fair in June. The nearest rest house is at Craignano which is 3 kms. from Mashobra, and is a beautiful holiday resort.

The Sidh Baba Temple

Maharaja Bhupinder Singh originally began building his palace at this site. It is said that a Baba - saintly person - appeared before the Maharaja in dream and declared that this was the place where he had this temple built.

Kali Ka Tibba

Mahakali temple located on a hill top popularly known as Kali ka Tibba, is a famous temple. It is very beautiful and drive to this temple is just fantastic through thick forest. This place is popular among tourists is due to its majestic views of chur Chandni Peak, Karol Tibba and other very beautiful landscapes and neighbouring areas of Sirmour, Solan and Shimla District.

Chail Cricket Ground

The world’s highest cricket ground at a height of 2,444m is three km from the main market, and within the field there are basketball court and football goal posts. Well kept and well maintained the ground is surrounded by huge trees of deodar and pine. It is presently used by the students of the Chail Military School.

The Ridge

A beautiful open place offering a majestic view of the surrounding mountains, the ridge is a favorite among tourists in Shimla. Here famous Christ Church is the second oldest church in Northern India. The foundation stone of this church was laid on 9th September 1844.

The State Museum

The state museum is located 2.5-km from the scandal point has got a good collection of ancient historical sculptures, paintings, coins and pictures.. It also has a library that stocks many historical books and manuscripts.

Jakhoo Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is built at an elevation of 8048 feet above sea level. Lord hanuman’s statue at the temple appears to bless the entire town of Shimla and is visible from the far corners of the city. There is a 45-minute walk to the temple from the Ridge for those who love to climb the mountains. However one can also hire a pony or take a cab.

The Mall Shimla

The mall is another open space and joins the Ridge at the ‘Scandal Point'. Mall as the word indicates is the commercial hub of Shimla. It has shops selling all kinds of goods and restaurants offering various cuisines. The famous Summer Festival of Shimla attracts tourists form far and wide in the month of June.

Viveregal Lodge

The Indian Institute of advanced studies, as the name indicates is an institute of higher learning and research situated in a picturesque part of Shimla. It was built as a home for Lord Dufferin, the viceroy of India in 1888 and was called the Viceregal Lodge.
